Medical tourism in Colombia: what a comprehensive executive health check-up in Medellín includes
Medline Team 6 min read
A 20-study executive check-up in Medellín: consultations, labs, imaging and functional studies, transport between facilities included, USD 1,800 tax free.
Colombia has become a common destination for preventive health screening, and Medellín is where most of it happens: a compact city with a dense concentration of accredited facilities, short distances between them, and a cost structure that makes a full work-up affordable without cutting anything out. The Comprehensive Executive Health Check-up is Medline Care's package for international patients, and this is exactly what it covers.
What is included
Twenty studies and evaluations, organised in four blocks. The grouping is not a clinical taxonomy — it reflects what actually happens to you: someone examines you and talks to you; blood is drawn once; an image is taken; a device is attached and you walk out with it.

How many days it takes
This is the question that decides your return flight, and it has a concrete answer. Most of the twenty items are ordinary appointments: you arrive, it is done, you leave. Three of them are not, and they are what turns the check-up into an itinerary rather than a list.
- The 24-hour blood pressure monitor is worn for a full day and returned the next morning.
- The 24-hour Holter works the same way — and two 24-hour devices cannot be worn at the same time, so each one takes a day of the trip.
- The polysomnography is an overnight study in a sleep lab. It takes one night and releases you the following morning.
Plan the trip around those three, not around the consultations. Transport between medical facilities is included, for all examinations — which in a city you do not know is a larger part of the experience than it sounds.
Price
USD 1,800, tax free, per person. That is the total price of the check-up: a single payment, not a deposit and not an estimate. Paying opens your programme with the studies reserved in your name, and each one is then booked from the app.
What is not included is stated plainly rather than hidden in a footnote. Three services are quoted separately: upper limb electromyography, lower limb electromyography, and lower limb duplex ultrasound. Travel, accommodation and anything arising from the results are also outside the package — and that last one matters, because a screening programme that promised to cover whatever it finds would be promising something nobody can price in advance.
A check-up is worth what its follow-up is worth. Results that stay in a folder you lose at the airport are an expensive souvenir.
Your records travel with you
All of your medical records are securely stored in the Medline mobile app — results, reports and history, available anytime and from anywhere. This is the part that most international check-up packages handle badly. You fly home a week later, and six months after that your own doctor asks what the echocardiogram showed. If the answer lives on a printed sheet in another country, the study was wasted.
Before you book
- Check the fasting requirements. Several of the laboratory studies require fasting, and so do some of the imaging studies; the schedule is built around them.
- Bring your previous results, especially any imaging of the same area. Half the value of a scan is the comparison with last year's.
- Declare implants, a pacemaker, allergies to iodinated contrast, or pregnancy before scheduling — not on the day.
- Allow slack at the end of the trip. If something is found, you want the option of a same-week follow-up rather than a rushed one.
An honest note about what this is
A check-up is a screening programme, not a guarantee. It is designed to find things early in people who feel well; it does not rule out everything, and a normal result is a snapshot of a moment, not a certificate of health. If you already have a symptom, what you need is not a screening package — it is a consultation about that symptom.
Medline is a digital health company. It connects patients with providers — physicians, laboratories, pharmacies and couriers — and is not a healthcare provider itself: it does not deliver clinical care, does not diagnose and does not interpret results. Every study in this package is performed by accredited institutions in Colombia, and every result is read by the professional who ordered it.
